Terms and conditions

There are no specific regulations in the UK relating to the provision of babysitting services, providing that the babysitter is over the age of 16 and the provision is not on a regular basis.

Parents must understand that when they request the services of a Babysitters of Southwark babysitter, particularly outside the home, they remain responsible for the care and wellbeing of their child.

Babysitters of Southwark will make every effort to interview and take up references for all babysitters introduced to parents. However, the parents should make their own assessment of the babysitter and satisfy themselves that the babysitter is competent for the task being asked of her/him. It should be understood that once the babysitter is engaged she/he is acting under the instructions of the parents and the parents are deemed to have assessed her/his reliability and competence in relation to the tasks to be undertaken.

Babysitters are not necessarily trained in first aid or other medical provision. Parents should agree with the babysitter as to what action should be taken in case of emergency and provide the babysitter with details of any medication or treatment that their child/children are receiving.

Parents should agree with the babysitter, the specific instructions for the activities that their children and the babysitter should undertake during the period in which the babysitter is supervising their children. These include:

  • Start and end times of the appointment
  • Acceptable modes of transport to be used
  • Activities and duties to be undertaken
  • Alternatives in case of a necessary change of plans
  • What meals should be taken, at what cost (if applicable) and what types of food are to be avoided
  • Frequency of contact with the parent during the day.
  • It will be the responsibility of the babysitter to abide by the agreements that have been made as a result of these discussions. Babysitters of Southwark will provide the same advice to the babysitter and ensure that she/he understands what is expected of her/him before setting out on the activity.
